0.8.6 - Storm on arty rebalance

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/197291.html

Well, I translated the whole thing, only to notice WG did it by themselves. *sigh* Oh well, at least the EU people aren't sitting on their asses and jerking each other off as usual. The english version can be found here.

Here are a few points Storm answered in discussion:

- the visibility range system will stay as it is now
- if you have a spall liner installed and it gets changed to another type (Jagdpanzer E-100 case for example, that one will get the superheavy one), the old one will be uninstalled and the new one will be put into your depot
- the reason for the spall liner buff is that big heavy tanks make fat targets for arty
- more info will come on friday
- tracks act as spaced armor against HEAT in the following way: let's say a vehicle has 40cm thick tracks, which are 10cm away from the hull. In this case, if a HEAT shell impacts on the tracks, it will lose 5 percent of penetration for each 10cm from the point of detonation, plus the amount of penetration for the tracks armor value, eg. in this case, 5*(50/10)+25 percent from tracks armor value
- armor screens modules for tanks will not come anytime soon

The new spall liners will work like this:

Let's say a 1800 damage arty hit impacts on your 100mm of armor and doesn't penetrate. In the old system, you will get (when you have a spall liner):

Old: 1800/2 (half damage for nonpen) - 100*1,3*1,15 = 750dam
New: 1800/2 - 100*1,3*1,3 = 731dam

However, for small caliber artillery (BatChat), when you are using a heavily armored vehicle (200mm armor let's say), it's more effective (than if you don't use it at all that is):

Old: 1250/2-200*1,3 = 365 dam
New: 1250/2-200*1,3*1,3 = 287 dam

- spall liner doesn't work at all for penetrating arty hits tho
- test won't come this week
- tier 10 tanks don't have XP negative modifiers
- there will be apparently a video made on the 8.6 mechanics changes before the 8.6 goes live
- Löwe won't get a buff
- 0.8.6 won't come before 3rd June
- 152mm HEAT shells on KV-2 were removed, because they weren't historical
- E-100 with the current gun is apparently not historical either
- the mortar guns got only shell velocity nerf, their trajectory remained the same
- KV-1S won't lose its 122mm, statistically it's doing fine
- the arty reload nerf is connected with the transfer of the arties to their new levels
- stocks of shells, that are removed, will be sold for full credit price when 0.8.6 goes live, if you bought 152mm HEAT shells for gold, you'll get their credit price back

  1. "152mm shells on KV-2 were removed, because they weren't historical" - so it took WG only 2 years to realise that fact? rotfl

spall liners were useless and will remain useless - what a surprise

    1. erm, what does it means? KV-2 is loosing it's troll cannon or what?

      Delete
    2. They mean HEAT here. They are replacing it with premium AP. SS probably accidently a word here.

    3. It will lose HEAT shells for troll cannon.

  2. So, the KV2 will lose its concrete thrower? And the E100 will maybe get new gun?

    1. Did the Kv2 fired sub calibers with its 152mm howitzer?

    2. I suppose they gonna remove the 15cm E-100 gun, without getting a new gun -.-

    3. *without getting a new gun the E-100 is useless then -.-

    4. I "wikipediaed" it. The KV2 had an 152mm howitzer and it fired 152mm shells. -.- How da hell isn't that unhistorical?
Maybe the sehlls itself, maybe it fired that caliber but different shells. :/

    5. @2nd post- it won't get APCR, but some other type of (full caliber) AP. @3rd post- the E-100 never had a turret or gun mounted anyway (just the chassis was done), but the 15cm was one of the proposals. -Platypusbill

    7. I guess the KV2 will lose its 152mm HEAT Shells. Maybe Silenstalker only forgot the "HEAT" in the Text...
The 152mm Howitzer is historical. I don´t think that they gonna remove it.

  7. Bought the KV-2 just a few days ago as fun tank, but didn't like it anyway, so I will sell it. But the E-100? Does that remark about its gun mean it will lose the second gun? If so, and if they don't offer a worthy replacement for it, my E-100 will be a waste of a garage place in the future.

WG.net and their historical accuracy bullcrap again. These people must be severely brain damaged.

    1. /sarcasm:they should remove whole turret from e100 because irl it did not have one./sarcasm off

Serb just pointed out that HEAT shells are ahistorical for kv-2 and e100, BUT they will remove them from kv-2 ONLY. BTW strange thing that HEAT shells are completely HISTORICAL(was developed for t7 derivate gun) for t30 but they decided to give it subcaliber(which along with standard AP was never developed for t7 gun) shells instead.

  12. So spall liner is as useless as it was before. Way to go, Wargaming geniuses. Sloped armor tanks get stronger while flat armored tanks don't. Way to go, Wargaming geniuses. Reduce penetration a hair on some guns, but increase the minimum penetration by 5%. Way to go, Wargaming geniuses. increase accuracy a hair for accurate guns, a huge amount for inaccurate guns. Way to go, wargaming geniuses.

Farking morons all. Buffs all the wrong tanks. Maus, JPE will still be turdmobiles, everything else gets more deadly.

"First, in addition to changes in distribution when calculating accuracy, the distribution will change in the calculation of damage and armor penetration as well. Currently, the calculations use a normal distribution which is cut to 2 sigma."

Wasn't it said the penetration and damage spread was linear?

Do we actually know this coefficient is 1,3? It used to be, but then it was lowered to buff HE damage a little (some time after change to HE mechanics). I don't remember exact value ever being disclosed. WoT Wiki contains 1,1, but that was just Snib's educated guess.

    1. another case of "i cant read properly so i would comment shit". And about guns...GOOD MORNING SLOPOKE i think you will want to try find info on some high level german and us guns.

    2. many many gun designs were available for the tank and many were proposed with different levels of seriousness. That said this is WoT where L/100 guns exist. I suggest you, first anon, cool it. I think a 128mm is logical. One has to remember that this was 1944-45 and making new gun designs from scratch and building them is a time consuming process. Taking something off the shelf and modifying it, as little as possible, to make it work is a lot easier. And before you complain about not having a 15cm gun... you might look up how much shells weigh because they were anything but a "light weight". Which means longer reload times and less ammo the bigger the shell. 128mm is also a two piece with one shell side and 3 different powder charges.

I guess I am saying be careful what you wish for. Bigger is not always better.

      NEMO.

  18. In order to increase the importance of vehicles’ armour on gameplay, we have decided to take the following set of measures:

The normalization of all armor-piercing shells was reduced down to 2 degrees (from the current 5).

One question i have now.... IS-7 armor will benefit from this or get nerfed?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OH GOD... of course is-7 will benefit from that, ALL vehicles ingame will benefit from that.

    2. IS7 becomes impenetrable from the front due to tier 10 pen nerf, and E-75's cannot penetrate each other's LFP.

      Delete
    3. Lower glacis of is-7 can be penned even with 10,5 L68(no prems)and for E-75s it depends on angle but direct frontal shot on flat ground should go in aswell(unless bad rng)

  20. Gugushev:

Actually the translation is incorrect. This is the original text by Storm(Mihail Jivets) in russian:Уменьшение нормализации всех подкалиберных снарядов. What it means is: Reducing normalisation for all APCR shells. подкалиберны = APCR. Here is the original text in russian: http://world-of-kwg....com/197291.html
Storm says in the comments below that normal AP shells won't be touched.
So WG will nerf only APCR.

    Any comment on this particular?

  22. Wasnt there a 15cm L46 planned for E-100?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes. Although no E-100 was ever complete I understand the a longer 15cm gun was planned (L/46 would be 6.9 metre instead of the in game L/38 which is 5.6 metre barrel length) so correct, historically the E-100 should have a gun that would have BETTER penetration (+shell velocity) and accuracy, NOT less.

  23. WG seem to do a lot to make/change things for Historical Accuracy just like the UK Heavy FV215b! WG say its Historically Accurate so it is! In their eyes only obviously!

Oh well History is only created by those bothered to put it down in writing, and can be changed by a single stroke of the pen!

    ReplyDelete
  24. '- KV-1S won't lose its 122mm, statistically it's doing fine'

Yeah so fine that its W/R is usually 5% above the player W/R LOL

Joke of a tank, one of the few in the game that performs much better than player W/Rs and yet it has never, and probably will never, get nerfed because its Russian.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So historical accurate huh? Than why have the KV1s the 122mm gun, or the 85mm one? The KV1s had only 76mm HISTORICALLY! Ok there was the KV 85, and even the KV 122 existed (it was a test vehickle if i remember that correctly, with the 122mm A19 cannon, witch is somehow called D2-5T in game... Or something like that...) And even if the devs want the KV1s become the KV 122 when fully upgraded, than make the accurate model of it! (I mean the turret ring was mutch bigger on the hull-just look it up! Search for a picture with a KV1s on it, than another one with a KV85-and compere the area under the turrets, then come back, and lets talk about historical accuraty...)
Sorry, i know the devs wont see this comment, but i cant hold it back...

    Have a nice day!

    1. Ahem, if you're looking for historical issues then I would first whine about the 2nd turret of the Chaffee or the mess that they made with the T95. Historical accuracy is something they use to justify their choices but they don't really care about it, it also hits Russian tanks, if you're somehow implying that they let the KV1S exists in this form because of RUSSIAN BIAS,for example the Soviet D-25T doesn't get (300mm pen) HEAT rounds, unlike the Chinese one, because of "historical accuracy".
